This month Teacher Tony Boris from the Chenrezig Tibetan Buddhist Center of Philadelphia will present “Addiction and Recovery: a Buddhist Perspective”.
From alcohol to narcotics, guns and gambling to social media and electronics, the cycle of addiction, so vastly misunderstood, is a source of pervasive suffering to individuals and societies worldwide.
What is addiction, and what does it mean to be in recovery? In our time together, we’ll look at addiction and recovery from several Buddhist perspectives; from the Four Noble Truths to the Bodhisattva vows and stops along the way. We’ll also look at 12 Step recovery programs such as AA, NA and the other A’s, along with neuropsychological approaches and how they comport (or don’t) with Buddhist philosophy, along with how we as Buddhists might benefit from their acquired wisdom as well.
We’ll conclude with a guided meditation drawn from our precious time together, for the benefit of all beings, including ourselves. All are welcome.
